Plant Theater for Plant People:
Plant Theater for Plant People: A co-creation project with artist Grace Ndiritu. For an art installation in the renovated Schouwburg Kortrijk, she created not just an object or a set piece, but a complete ecosystem. During her residency at Texture, she takes the public along on a playful, activist and connecting creative process. This literally comes to life in a joyful creative parade, with an emphasis on ecological awareness and social change.
This Plant Theater aims to be playful, activist and connecting. It brings the theatre into the street and the street into the theatre, with an emphasis on ecological awareness and social change.
RESIDENCY
Grace Ndiritu is a British-Kenyan visual artist, filmmaker and writer. With 'The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight', she creates a work for the reopening of the Kortrijk Schouwburg inspired by Thom Hartmann's book 'The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight'. In this project, she investigates our irresistible urge to create a new, sustainable future â in spite of global chaos and the climate crisis.
The project is like an alarm clock: a call to (re)awaken. Not only do we ourselves need to wake up, but so does the theatre as a space for reflection, community and change. The rising sun in her art represents the dawn of a new era â an era of hope, renewal and the restoration of nature.
Grace Ndiritu loves to involve the local community in the creation of her works. During the residency at Texture, from February to November 2026, Grace will create a 'Plant Theater for Plant People' together with participants in Kortrijk. This playful, collective experience brings the theatre into the street, drawing attention to ecological and social change. The co-creations from the workshops literally come to life during a collective performance in autumn, at the reopening of the Schouwburg.
In 'The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight', the theatre once again becomes a forest â but this time one rooted in ecological reality and historical restoration processes. The architecture serves as a place where nature can manifest itself both conceptually and physically, becoming a magical space that hopefully brings the visitor into a state of slowness and wonder.
PRESENTATION
In a series of monthly co-creation workshops (from February to October 2026), you can create joyful masks, costumes and protest signs together with Grace, while engaging in ecological and spiritual exercises. In autumn, all of this comes together in a colourful parade through Kortrijk, at the reopening of the Schouwburg.
