At the table:
What makes a house a real home? Twelve 2BA Textile Design students at KASK & Conservatory will spend six months drawing inspiration from Texture's home textiles collection. During their residency, they will explore how we deal with archives and home textiles today, the value of preserving these 'everyday' items, and how they, as designers, can highlight their relevance in new work.
Behind each piece lies a story, which is emphasised by a repair. In this way, garments acquire multiple creators and become a collective story. - Lore Deschutter
RESIDENCY
During their residency, the students immerse themselves in Texture's collection of home textiles. From geometric patterns and traces of use on the iconic linen towel and festive table linen, to colourful darning patches and graphic sample books for mattress ticking, to intercultural stories that emphasise the connecting power of handicrafts.
At home, always sitting in your own chair and your regular place at the table, you leave traces in the form of memories on that same chair. In this way, the object transforms, and we transform with it. - Lila van der Heiden
SHOWCASE
The twelve designers translate this archival research into fabrics, prints, objects and installations that contain stories and memories about home. The exhibition Aan tafel (At the table) highlights the unique stories interwoven with textiles from four thematic lines: preserving everyday life, traces of use, repair traditions and stories of home.
