Masterclass in folding techniques and digital laser cutting with Dewi Brunet

For those looking to explore surprising combinations, Dewi Brunet is the ideal guide. A master of folding techniques, he is endlessly fascinated by innovative technologies like robotics, weaving the two together into intriguing creations.

In the autumn of 2025, his installation Plantoïd was showcased in our Crown Hall: an ecosystem of plant-inspired robots, entirely folded. This spring, Dewi returns to Texture for a workshop centered on folding techniques. After visiting the Tablescapes exhibition, you will get to work yourself.

During this two-day workshop, you will not only acquire or deepen your practical knowledge of folding techniques such as pleating, origami, and froissage, but also investigate how digital tools like a laser cutter can give these techniques a new dimension. You will laser-cut your own ‘folding loom’: a wooden plate with geometric patterns used to fold textiles. Each pattern yields a different result. To do this, the group will head to the Maakbib in Kortrijk.

You get to take your ‘folding loom’ home, along with your new folding skills, the paper templates, and the pleated textile samples created during the workshops. Additionally, Dewi will inspire you on using simple robotics to bring your folds to life and demonstrate the possibilities of folding with biomaterials like kombucha.
