Soft Objects. A colourful play by Gaspard Fleury-Dugy
This autumn, Texture invites you into the universe of Gaspard Fleury-Dugy with Soft Objects — a visual artist and designer who experiments with the graphic language of loops, stitches, and lines in textile. His work moves effortlessly between design and art, digital precision and unexpected movement, unfolding in a vivid and playful visual language. Gaspard Fleury-Dugy's first collection, Soft Objects, brought him international recognition and a signature style within contemporary textile design. The sculptures combine organic forms with futuristic details, where references emerge to classical vases, modernist architecture, and digital visual culture. Bright, almost fluorescent colours, inspired by sportswear, accentuate the folds and give each object a vibrant tension. Today, his research is expanding further into light objects, graphic work, and new applications of knitted structures, including a series of interior objects currently in development. At Texture, we are happy to give him the space to deepen these experiments and create new work especially for this exhibition.
My work uses textile thinking to create objects that behave like soft architecture. I work between digital design and machine logic, letting control and unpredictability coexist. The result is a language of forms that feels playful, structural, and quietly surreal.
Gaspard Fleury-Dugy is a designer and visual artist who lives and works in Paris. His practice is fed by textile techniques and the graphic vocabulary that emerges from them. As a former trapeze artist, he sees his work as a series of supple and colourful pirouettes: a play of movement, balance, and rhythm.
He studied at the École Duperré in Paris and at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås (Sweden), where he developed a distinctive universe in which machine, digital technology, craft, and imagination come together. Knitting is a form of building, and the industrial knitting machine is the "pencil" with which he develops a new formal language that transforms yarn into volume, structure, and architecture.
In 2023, he received the Sisley Young Creators Grant. Since then, his work has been presented during design weeks in Paris, Milan, Eindhoven, Madrid, and Stockholm. In 2024, his work was on display in the shop window of the Centre Pompidou boutique in Paris. In 2025, he was selected for the exhibition Design Beyond Things at the World Expo in Osaka and took part in the Design Disco Club at Fondation Lafayette Anticipations. Today, he is considered a rising talent within the international textile scene.
In 2025, Texture was part of the jury of the Biennale Objet Textile for the first time, a biennial event for contemporary textile work. From more than 300 submissions, 20 artists and designers were selected for an exhibition at La Manufacture Roubaix. During this fifth edition, Texture awarded the Texture Prize for the first time: a commitment not only to honour a promising talent, but also to offer them a platform within the museum. The choice fell on Gaspard Fleury-Dugy and his Soft Objects series. In this exhibition, Texture brings this work together with a broader selection from his oeuvre, while also inviting him to continue experimenting and exploring new possibilities within his artistic practice.
